Kayaking 301 builds upon the Kayaking 201 class and cements your skills as a class III paddler. During this course students will be introduced to advanced river-running techniques, surfing, and basic swiftwater rescue.

Whitewater Kayak Camp I is a full day camp that will introduce your child to whitewater kayaking in a comfortable and encouraging environment. Whitewater Kayak Camp III is a full day camp experience that will fine tune your camper’s kayaking skills while challenging them to develop more advanced techniques at an accelerated pace. These skills, maneuvers, and river knowledge will allow them to enhance their whitewater paddling experience by opening up new ways to enjoy a variety of rivers. Advanced Whitewater Kayak Campers will also learn rescue techniques that will teach them how to handle adversity on the river.

The course provides 200-hour YTT training, one Whitewater Center annual parking pass, a comprehensive training workbook, and access to yoga blocks, bolsters, and straps. It will prepare participants to instruct classes typically offered to the general adult population. The full program must be completed in order to receive the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification.

This training program is registered by Yoga Alliance and meets or exceeds Yoga Alliance standards. Students who complete this training will be eligible to register as RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance.

Dates:

This course begins on September 11th. Attendance at every class is required for certification. There are no make-up dates.

Learn the basics of climbing in this introductory class. Participants will learn the proper gear needed for climbing, how to minimize risk, basic climbing terminology, basic climbing etiquette/USNWC policies, and the proper (slot-style) belay technique. Upon completion of the course, participants will be prepared to take the Belay Test, which results in belay qualification to be used while climbing at the USNWC. Once qualified, participants will have more access to climbing areas as well as access to roped climbs and auto belays.

This ACA course teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress in a swiftwater environment. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and on simple commonly used skills. Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins are taught. These scenarios will provide the opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group environment.
